![]() You get the benefit of the doubt on this on account you pulled me out of that lava pit when nobody else even knew I was in danger. Now that you bring this up, I think they kind of use that, "Someone is super cool with Pendergast because he saved their life and solved a crime and all that, but next book, or later same book I'm pissed because Pendergast doesn't know what he's doing." Coldmoon, D'Agosta, Corrie. voice like Katherine Hepburn?! Thank you for letting me know I should definitely only read these and never listen to the audio versions! ) Now that I've rambled on forever with my complaints, I'll jump on to yours. The way she became this dumbass who made absolutely every stupid decision possible and suddenly became jealous of Pendergast and thought he was going to steal her spotlight?! Ugh, I had to put that one down a few times out of frustration and almost posted here then too lol. ![]() Or like they seem to think women just frequently completely change their personalities in an instant? Like how Constance is always flip-flopping in behavior, or very notably Corrie (who I love!) having a personality 180 in White Fire. Sometimes I feel like Preston and Child maybe just aren't the best at writing women. ![]() But gosh, she has just gotten worse and worse. I was fascinated! That's still one of my favorite subplots and I absolutely thought Constance would be a favorite because she was so interesting and intriguing. So anyway.my first introduction to Constance was when she was hiding out in the institution and that whole story line with the doctor who fell in love with her and broke into the crazy lady's house to get her lock of hair. Which is kind of funny to me now because I started this whole series out of order and found her so fascinating! I was given a box of books that contained Fever Dream and read it without knowing it was part of a series (or even a trilogy!) So I read the Helen trilogy then started back at book one and have gone in order. ![]() I definitely will finish it (and the remaining few!) I just had to put it down for now because I maaay have gotten a little too wound up about it pĬonstance is probably my least favorite character in the series overall. absurd? stupid? unbelievable? out of character? I'm not even sure how to describe in words my frustration and dislike of it lol.ĭid anyone else here feel this way when reading these particular books/experience this level of frustration in regards to this plot line? I do know I still have plenty of this book left, and several more books after, so perhaps it will all turn around and Constance will turn out not to be such a freakin' twit (to put it nicely)! As much as I love the Pendergast books so far, I just really, really hate the Constance/Diogenes plot line. I've just read the part where she smashes the vase over D'Agosta's head so she and Diogenes can get away and I had to put the book down. It just seemed so unbelievably silly and far-fetched that this incredibly smart woman was convinced within, what, a matter of minutes to take the side of a man she 100% knew to be a serial killer over everyone else in her life.īut my god the disappointment in that book was absolutely nothing compared to what I'm now experiencing reading The Obsidian Chamber! As if it wasn't stupid enough the first time around, Constance is now again dropping every ounce of intelligence or self-respect or common sense to run off with Diogenes?! When reading the Diogenes trilogy I was really frustrated by how incredibly easy it was for Diogenes to seduce Constance and how willing she was to betray/hide information from everyone in her life. I have to vent a bit to my fellow Pendergast fans. (Spoilers up to the halfway point in The Obsidian Chamber)
